Lesya Ukrainka National Academic Theatre of Russian Drama is located in the historical centre of Kiev, not far from Opera theatre, metro station Teatralnaya, Kreschatik and Golden gate.

On the stage of National Academic Theater of Russian Drama named after Lesya Ukrainka many popular actresses, actors, artists, directors and composers worked.

In 1946 National Theatre of Russian Drama named after Lesya Ukrainka was decorated with Order of Labour Red Banner, and in 1966 the theatre was given the rank of academic.

History of Theatres of Russian drama in Kiev started from stock company of actor and director Nikolay Solovtsov. His theatre started working in 1891. First performances were staged in the building of present theatre of Ivan Franko. In the sequel the troupe became permanent, and marked the beginning of Kiev Russian Drama Theatre.

The most famous performances of Academic Theatre are: "Living Corpse" by Leo Tolstoy with Mikhail Romanov, "Toybele and Her Demon" by I. Bashevis-Singer with Tatiana Nazarova, "Warsaw Melody" by L. Zorina with Ada Rogovtseva etc.
